Why I created this framework and why it's Important.

🎥 What You’ll Learn in This Video:

This quick explainer walks you through the heart of the BACK AT THE TABLE™ framework and how to apply it in practice.

✅ Understand the step-by-step process of transitioning from PEG tube to oral eating

✅ Create a personalised, patient-centred food map that supports long-term eating success

BACK AT THE TABLE FRAMEWORK

See how a structured, real-world approach to commensality (social eating) and dysphagia care can enhance your patient outcomes.

✅ Whether you're a Speech Pathologist, Dietitian, Care giver or Patient - if you're ready to shift from surviving meals to experiencing them, this is for you.

If you're working with patients who are PEG-fed, struggling with dysphagia, or navigating the emotional toll of post-treatment eating, you're in the right place.

In this video, I walk you through the 5 foundational stages of the BACK AT THE TABLE framework built not just on theory, but on lived experience turned into clinical insight.

💬 What we cover:

* Why PEG-to-plate recovery fails without a full-body approach

* How mindset, food, physical readiness, and social re-entry all intersect

* What most dysphagia pathways are missing - and how this model fills that gap

BACKAT THE TABLE: A Guided Transition from PEG Tube to Oral Eating

For clinicians and individuals supporting recovery from dysphagia after PEG feeding.

The BACK AT THE TABLE framework is a five-module, self-paced online course designed to guide patients and their care teams through the complex journey of transitioning from PEG tube feeding back to oral eating.

Created by a lived-experience educator and patient advocate, this program provides structured, realistic, and emotionally intelligent guidance to support patient-centred recovery.

It addresses the psychological, nutritional, and physical challenges that come with eating again especially after cancer, radiation, or long-term tube feeding.

Who this is for:

  • Speech pathologists, dietitians, and rehab clinicians seeking a lived-experience-based resource to enhance patient care
  • Individuals navigating dysphagia and looking for trustworthy, non-medicalised guidance
  • Carers supporting someone on the path back to oral intake

What the program covers:

  1. How to assess a patient’s starting point and create a meaningful, flexible care plan
  2. How to reduce fear, build confidence, and support mental preparedness
  3. How to reintroduce foods safely while meeting nutritional needs
  4. How to strengthen body awareness and swallowing safety
  5. How to sustain progress over the long term and support commensality (social eating)

Why it matters:

Eating again isn’t just about calories, it’s about identity, dignity, and quality of life.

This course bridges the gap between clinical care and lived experience, helping patients feel empowered while giving clinicians a deeper, more practical understanding of what real-world recovery looks like.

Feeling Seen.

"I’ve been following Yvonne since my diagnosis in May 2023, and I’ve learned so much from her journey through head and neck cancer. She shared honest, practical insights, sometimes raw, always real that helped me more than she’ll ever know. Her stories gave me survival information, emotional strength, and a sense of being understood at a time when I felt completely alone. I remember crying more than once because she put words to things I hadn’t been able to express myself.

Fast forward two years, and I finally met Yvonne in person. I’m beyond grateful for everything she’s doing, sharing her experience, helping others heal, and proving that life after treatment is not just possible, but meaningful."

MODULE 2: Your Mind

Get your head in the game - literally.

Eating after a long break isn’t just physical, it’s deeply emotional. This module helps you prepare mentally, identify fears or unhelpful beliefs, and develop confidence strategies. You’ll learn why mindset matters, and how to gently retrain your thinking to feel safe around food again.

Big takeaway:

Learn how to rebuild trust in your body and shift from fear to confidence.

MODULE 3: Your Food

Food is more than fuel - it’s freedom.

Big takeaway:

Discover how to safely reintroduce foods in a way that nourishes and excites you.

MODULE 4: Your Body

Your body is talking - learn to listen.

This module focuses on physical strategies: in addition to SLP guidance I talk about other movement routines like yoga & stretching, and sensory cues that support safer eating. You’ll also get guidance on working with your care team to strengthen function and avoid setbacks. Auxiliary treatment now and in your future food life.

Big takeaway:

Learn how to support your swallowing and movement to make eating safer and more comfortable.

MODULE 5: Your Future

Plan for the long haul.

In the final module, you’ll learn how to manage setbacks, advocate for your needs, and stay on track beyond the initial transition. We’ll cover preparing for medical reviews, building a sustainable lifestyle, and keeping commensality - shared meals, as part of your recovery.

Big takeaway:

Leave with a long-term plan and tools to make eating joyful, sustainable, and social again.
